Health, Safety and Welfare
Welcome to the South East Health and Safety Practitioners pages.
The importance of Health, Safety and Welfare
Fire & Rescue Authorities have a legal duty under health and safety law to maintain the safety and welfare of its employees and others through the effective management of risk.
FRAs operate in a diverse environment ranging from community safety initiatives, working closely with local authority's on legislative fire safety matters and the dynamic, and sometimes high-risk, environments when responding to emergency situations. The need to effectively manage work place risks through suitable risk assessments and subsequent risk controls is paramount for the safety of our staff and the community who we serve.
The role of the Regional FRS Health and Safety Practitioners Group is to seek creative solutions to health and safety matters and to share good practice whilst enhancing overall capacity through collaborative working.
What we intend to achieve in 2008/09
Fire and Rescue Services within the Southeast Region seek continual performance improvement in the health and safety management systems applied within the workplace.
To that end the overall aim of the Regional plan is to:
- Pool regional resources within the sprit of partnership working to achieve a series of health and safety work streams providing added value to all Fire & Rescue Services within the Southeast, whilst sharing good practice within the National Health and Safety arena.
This overarching aim has been extended into a range of performance outcomes:
- Reduction in workplace accidents and incidents.
- Regional consistency in health and safety management systems.
- Effective use of regional health and safety resources to maximise capacity.
- The formation and maintenance of health and safety intelligence supporting proactive health and safety initiatives.
- Achieving best value for each Fire and Rescue Service.
