Understanding Coalition Government

Chaired by highly experienced parliamentary training consultant, Tim Williams, this unique course will begin with a look at how parliamentary procedure is changing as a result of the new Coalition Government (Professor Robert Hazell, Director, Constitution Unit, University College London). Other sessions will include : the legislative process - how legislation will work under the coalition, the importance of party whips, gaining consensus in a coalition (Lord Norton of Louth); the new committee system - changes to the committee system under the new government, the role of the committee system in scrutinizing legislation (Eleanor Goodison, training consultant); understanding the role of the Opposition in the new parliament - how its role has changed, the importance of the Opposition under coalition, its ability to influence policy making.
Limited funding is available through SEFIP for any staff that would like to attend this course. Please contact James Finch if you would like to go.
